Originally, the brewery was built in 1915, when four brewers called together under the name Vriendenkring, in German "friends". The first great success was the Vriendenkring lager beer, which even went into export in 1925. During the Second World War, the brewery was destroyed and rebuilt in 1981. The current range of Hertog Jan brewery includes eight beers, starting with the Pilsener, the Lentebock, the Weizener, the Bockbier, the Karakter, the Dubbel, the Tripel and the Grand Prestige, which, as already mentioned, are among the best one hundred beers in the world becomes. Not for nothing the producers refer to the beer as "Ons kroonjuweel", which hardly needs to be translated.
